Amazon to Create a Coronavirus Testing Lab for Employees

Amazon is building a lab to test employees for COVID-19 in an attempt to protect its delivery drivers and warehouse workers. Although the company acknowledges that its effort might not accomplish much, Amazon still formed a team to take on the task of making a laboratory to “start testing small numbers of our front line employees soon.” 

“Regular testing on a global scale across all industries would both help keep people safe and help get the economy back up and running,” Statement by Amazon

Amazon’s team will be featuring employees with a wide variety of skill sets such as research scientists, program managers, procurement specialists and software engineers, who will be dedicating themselves to the initiative and although the company is unsure how many tests they can produce, Amazon is willing to share any discoveries made. 

The company will also be hiring 100,000 new employees to meet the rise in demand, as its online services deliver essentials to people’s doorsteps.
