A Department of Homeland Security (DHS) official revealed himself as the anonymous author who criticized Donald Trump. Miles Taylor, the author behind the piece, called the President “a man without character,” explaining that it was the reason why he wrote ‘A Warning’ and “it’s why me & my colleagues have spoken out against him (in our own names) for months.”
On Twitter, Taylor added that now “It’s time for everyone to step out of the shadows.”
Blowback From the White House
In response to Taylor’s publication, the White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany said that the “disgruntled former staffer is a liar and a coward who chose anonymity over action and leaking over leading.” The White House’s Chief of Staff Mark Meadows and the spokesperson of Trump’s campaign Hogan Gidley also spoke in the President’s defense.
In a statement for Medium, Taylor said that he “wanted the attention to be on the arguments themselves” and his critiques against Trump “forced the President to answer them directly on their merits.”
As a response to Taylor, the US president tweeted that he had “never even heard of him“ and called the former official a “sleazebag.“ Trump also added that this is “Just another @nytimes SCAM” that Taylor has cooperated with and everyone associated with this “FRAUD” has to be punished.
In response, Taylor shared photos of him in the Oval Office with the US President and wrote that he “will continue shining a light” on Trump’s “failed presidency through the election—and beyond.“
