Pat Cipollone: Democrats Are Using the Impeachment Trial to Remove Trump From the Ballot

The impeachment trial of President Trump rolls on with the President’s legal team offering their opening statements. White House counsel Pat Cipollone started by suggesting that Democrats were using the trial as a way to steal the upcoming 2020 election through the removal of President Trump through the impeachment process. He also accused them of trying to undermine the results of the previous election from 2016.

A Smear Campaign Disguised as an Impeachment Trial

“They are asking you not only to overturn the results of the last election, but as I said before, they are asking you to remove President Trump from the ballot in an election that’s occurring in approximately nine months,”

-Pat Cipollone

Cipollone took the chance to remind senators of how outrageously the Democrats had behaved leading up to the trial and during the trial itself.

Cipollone reminded senators that Democrats in the House of Representatives were essentially requesting senators to “tear up” the existing voting ballots from the next election, a move that would undermine the democratic process itself because it would deny the American people the chance to make their voices heard with their votes.

Cipollone said that the Democrats were making a dangerous request that would surely thwart the rights and will of the American public.

“For all the talk about election interference…they are here to perpetuate the most massive interference in an election in American history, and we can’t allow that to happen.”

Cipollone argues that the Constitution stipulates the American people should be given the deciding vote over Trump, which they will get in the upcoming election. It is not for the bureaucrats in Washington to decide.
