Ed Brodow: Democrats’ False Voter ID Argument

Democrats have proved year after year that they will lie about anything in their lust for power. President Biden is proving himself to be a liar extraordinaire, exceeding even Barack Obama. The specious argument that voter IDs are racist and prevent minorities from voting is without a doubt one of the most egregious falsehoods ever perpetrated by Biden and the Democrats. More to the point, it contradicts the preference of the vast majority of American voters. A Monmouth poll conducted June 9-14 revealed that 81 percent of American adults support voter ID laws.

Labeling voter ID laws “un-American” and “sick,” Biden said they are worse than the Jim Crow-era laws that institutionalized racial discrimination and segregation. Taking the issue even further over the top, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki claimed that voter ID laws and absentee ballot regulations are the “worst challenge to our democracy since the civil war.” Are we expected to take this seriously?

The argument against voter ID laws has been summarized by the ACLU: “Many Americans do not have one of the forms of identification acceptable for voting. These voters are disproportionately low-income, racial and ethnic minorities, the elderly, and people with disabilities. Such voters more frequently have difficulty obtaining ID, because they cannot afford or cannot obtain the underlying documents that are a prerequisite to obtaining government-issued photo ID card.”

I submit that this argument is (1) completely contrary to common sense; and (2) an attempt to perpetuate the kind of voting abuses that scarred the 2020 election. No individual can function in this society without some sort of legal identification. You cannot drive a car. You cannot open a bank account. You cannot board an airplane. You cannot buy liquor. You cannot obtain government benefits such as unemployment insurance or welfare payments. You cannot receive a COVID vaccination without providing a picture ID. Does that mean that minorities are deliberately excluded from protection against the coronavirus? To insist that minorities are unable to obtain a valid ID is a calculated insult and an absurdity.

We desperately need to curb the following election abuses: accepting votes from the deceased and from voters who no longer reside in the state where they are voting; allowing illegals to vote; permitting an individual voter to submit multiple ballots; accepting phony absentee ballots. The simple way to prevent all of them is to require proof of identity. If you can’t prove who you are, you shouldn’t be allowed to vote.

Democrats seem to have a monopoly on fraudulent voting practices. Their aim is to encourage voting abuses that benefit their party’s candidates. Big Tech supports the Democrats via social media censorship—your post is blocked on Facebook and Twitter if you suggest voter fraud occurred in the 2020 election. Political commentator Mark Levin has put his finger on the issue: “Let’s just be honest, they want to defend fraud. You can’t do damn near anything without government issued ID. Except vote! Anyone can vote without a photo ID at the polls! Voter integrity is something the Democratic Party rejects. Because they want multiple voting. Because they want dead people voting. So this isn’t some civil rights issue. This is to promote fraud!”

Democrats oppose the audits of the 2020 election that are taking place across the country. The reason? Feigned concern that the investigations will undermine public trust in the election results. I would submit that just the opposite is true—public trust in our elections has already been undermined. We need to retrieve it. Given the amount of circumstantial evidence and personal affidavits that indicate the strong possibility of fraud in the 2020 election, we would be remiss not to perform a thorough investigation so we know for sure that the results were valid.

The only reason to oppose the audits that makes sense is if you know the election was rigged and you don’t want the public to find out. Fess up, Joe. Is that what you’re afraid of?
