Introduction to advanced editing in the Photos app
Thanks to the advanced photo editing capabilities of the iPhone, it's possible to make significant adjustments to your photos after capturing them. No longer limited to simple cropping or color adjustments, you can now correct the perspective or angle in photos, eliminate fisheye distortion on ultra-wide shots, and even fine-tune the rotation or skew in your images.
Adjusting the perspective of an image post-capture
Adobe Lightroom mobile allows you to straighten and adjust the perspective of an image after it is captured. For instance, if you are trying to photograph a painting on a wall or food on a table from a direct front, it may not always be possible to get it perfect. Without standing directly in front of these objects, the resulting photo can appear skewed or distorted. Thankfully, by using the horizontal adjust button in the Photos app, you can change the perspective accordingly.
Tall buildings, on the other hand, require a different approach for perspective correction. The vertical adjust button can be used in this case. For instance, considering the image of the Duomo di Firenze taken with the 0.5X lens, you can use the maximum amount of correction to reduce much of the fish-eye distortion that typically accompanies ultra-wide lenses.
Combination of rotate, horizontal, and vertical adjust tools
These individual perspective correction tools can also be used in combination, to enable better editing of images. One great example is in correcting images in crowded places such as museums, where you rarely get a chance to get a perfect shot. By using the rotate, horizontal, and vertical adjust tools together, you can give the image the appearance of having been taken from a perfect standpoint.
Moreover, when captured in ProRAW format, even photos taken in less-than-ideal circumstances can result in a high-resolution image after editing.
Additional editing tools in the Photos app
The iPhone’s Photos app provides a host of additional editing tools beyond perspective correction. From the rotate button that allows full 90° adjustments, to the level slider for minor corrections, these tools help you achieve the desired effect in every photo. The app also features cropping, pinching to zoom in, and making the image perfectly square. Besides, the aspect ratio button can be used for achieving popular presets like 16:9.
