Federal Judge Rejects President’s Attempt to Block Subpoena for Tax Records

On Thursday, US District Judge Victor Marrero rejected President Donald Trump’s attempt to dismiss a subpoena aimed at disclosing his tax records. President was too broad and issued in bad faith. The citation was requested from a state grand jury in relation to adult actress Stormy Daniels and the payments made to her before Trump’s win in 2016.

Trump’s Bid Blocked, Will Appeal

Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance Jr. is seeking eight years of Trump’s personal and business tax returns, accompanied by other financial documents related to the president’s business practices.

The US Supreme Court denied Trump’s claims of immunity from state criminal subpoenas last month, with Trump arguing that they should be thrown out, adding that the investigation is limited to payments made by his former lawyer Michael Cohen.

Vance and Marrero share the same point of view on the issue – tossing the subpoena would be shielding the president and others involved from the investigation. When making his decision, Marrero also rejected a request made by Trump’s legal team, which wanted to peek into the grand jury probe and the subpoena’s bases.
