Former White House Press Secretary Running for Arkansas Governor

On Monday, ex-White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced she is running for Arkansas governor in 2022.

In an eight-minute video, Sanders stated that Arkansas “needs a leader with the courage to do what's right, not what's politically correct or convenient” and as a governor, she will defend people’s right "to be free of socialism and tyranny."

Sarah Sanders is ex-Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee’s daughter and was strongly encouraged by Donald Trump to run for governor after she left the White House in 2019.

In her video, Sanders explained that her dad always said that “the real test of a leader is not the way you handle the issues you know are coming, it's rising to the moment in a crisis you could never plan for" and added that she’s been "tested under fire."

Sarah Sanders aims to replace current Gov. Asa Hutchinson, who is prevented by term limits from running for reelection in 2022. Sanders throws her hat into an arena that includes prominent Arkansas leaders Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin and Attorney General Leslie Rutledge.
