Getting Rid of the Only-Search.com Adware: How to Remove It

Only-Search.com is often referred to as adware because of its intrusive nature. That is a clear example of how advanced malware has become, showcasing its ability to work across multiple platforms, hence the term 'cross-platform malware.' The virus mostly gains entry into your device through a process known as bundling. That is where it attaches itself to third-party utilities, usually free software you download and install willingly but without knowing the additional payload.

Symptoms and Objectives

The main objective of Only-Search.com Adware is to generate profit through the ads it displays on your browser. The virus changes your browser preferences without your input. That could be your home or search page redirecting to Only-Search.com. The implications and symptoms range from intrusive ads, redirection of searches to unknown and potentially harmful websites, and undesired toolbars or extensions attached to your web browser. The customization feature on the browser may even be tampered with, limiting user control while further enabling the behavior of the adware.

Removal

Getting rid of Only-Search.com is more complex than deleting an extension or add-on from your browser. The standard uninstalling method could prove inefficient as the malware tends to leave behind trace files in the system. The adware usually integrates deeply into the system; thus, resetting your browser settings is the practical solution to undo all changes the adware has made.

To manually remove Only-Search.com adware from your web browsers and macOS, follow these steps:

5. Reset DNS settings (optional but recommended):

      • Go to "System Preferences" -> "Network"
      • Pick your active network connection (Wi-Fi/Ethernet) and click "Advanced."
