How to Remove Army Ransomware

What is Ransomware?

Ransomware is a type of malware that infects and encrypts a computer's data, holding it hostage. The ransomware will only decrypt the data if demanding a ransom is paid by the victim.

How Does Ransomware Spread?

Ransomware is spread by sending a malicious email containing the ransomware to a victim. Attackers can do this in one of two ways:

1) By convincing the victim to open an attachment or click on a link within an email.
2) By tricking the victim into downloading software that contains malware with ransomware embedded in it.

How Does Army Ransomware Work?

Army ransomware is very different from other types of ransomware. Army Ransomware is spread by a phishing email with the subject that has been sent to victims, which contains a link to execute the malware. When a victim opens or clicks on the email attachment, this will trigger Army Ransomware on the hijacked computer. The ransomware encrypts data and then displays an army-themed ransom message to intimidate the victim and extort them for money.

Army Ransomware does not demand payment through Bitcoin or any other currency online like most other types of ransomware do; it demands payment with Ukash prepaid cards that victims can purchase at retail stores such as Walmart. The message will ask the victim to put in their credit card number, making it seem more legitimate. It also claims that the card will be charged if the payment is not made within seven days of this encrypting process.

Army Ransomware is highly targeted towards organizations in Western countries such as the USA, UK, Canada, and Australia. This type of ransomware can be seen by attackers specifically targeting these countries with email campaigns that contain a link or attachment that contains a malicious payload installed and run by army ransomware.
