Impeachment: No Witnesses/Final Vote Wednesday

Trump Moves Closer To Leaving Impeachment Mess Behind

GOP Senators found the votes Friday evening to stop Democratic efforts to extend the Trump impeachment trial and call witnesses, including former National Security Adviser John Bolton, as the final vote on whether or not to remove President Trump from office seems likely to occur Wednesday.

After hours of debate, the Senate voted 51 to 49 to block a Dems motion to call witnesses. The vote came after Democrats took the floor pleading to continue the deliberations.

Only two Republicans, Utah Sen. Mitt Romney and Maine Sen. Susan Collins voted with Democrats for new witnesses.

"Senators will now confer among ourselves, with the House managers, and with the president’s counsel to determine next steps as we prepare to conclude the trial in the coming days," Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., said in a statement after the vote.
