Two officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department were shot amid Breonna Taylor protests on Wednesday.
Breonna Taylor Protests Turn Violent
During a preliminary briefing, the Louisville police chief, Robert Schroeder, told reporters the officers had non-life-threatening injuries and added that a suspect was held in custody.
President Donald Trump wrote on Twitter that he was "praying for the two police officers that were shot," and was prepared to work with the Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, “immediately upon request!"
"I am very concerned about the safety of our officers," Schroeder told the reporters, and that “It’s a very dangerous condition."
The police officers and the suspect were not identified.
On Wednesday, Gov. Andy Beshear addressed the shooting and told people in the streets to "go home."
Beshear also added that "the answer to violence is never violence,” and they were thinking about those two officers and their families.
Earlier on the same day, the attorney general announced that they have identified one of the three officers involved in Taylor's shooting.
That was the former officer Brett Hankison, who was charged with three counts of felony wanton endangerment for shooting into the next door apartment to Taylor's.
The other officers involved in the shooting were not charged.
