Tennis Champion Serena Williams lent her support to NFL players refusing to stand for the national anthem when she praised the campaign initiated by former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick and his ex-teammate Eric Reid, when she said "every human . . . should be completely grateful" for their misguided protests.
"I think every athlete, every human, and definitely every African-American should be completely grateful and honored how Colin and Eric are doing so much more for the greater good," she was quoted as saying, according to the AP.
"They really use their platform in ways that are really unfathomable. I feel like they obviously have great respect from a lot of their peers, especially other athletes, people that really are looking for social change."-Serena Williams
Serena Williams is in New York for one of the 4 grand slam tournaments on Tennis' yearly schedule, the U.S. Open. After beating her sister Venus earlier in the tournament she afterward said that she "owes everything" to her big sister.
