Sessions looks to Drain Swamp of Obama Appointees

Attorney General Jeff Sessions requested the resignation of 46 US Attorneys appointed by the Obama Administration on Friday.

Normally the 93 US attorneys are on duty until their replacements are nominated  and confirmed but the 46 who stayed on in the first weeks of the Trump administration have been asked to resign "in order to ensure a uniform transition," Sarah Isgur Flores of the Justice Department said in a statement.

"Until the new U.S. attorneys are confirmed, the dedicated career prosecutors in our U.S. attorney's offices will continue the great work of the department in investigating, prosecuting and deterring the most violent offenders."- Sarah Isgur Flores, Justice Department Spokesperson

This swift and decisive action by the attorney general is being criticized by some on the left while being celebrated by backers of the Trump Administration.

Some of the reactions on Twitter went like:

The fact is that every administration gets to appoint their own US Attorneys. This will not however, stop many in the media from portraying it as an incredibly unusual course of action by the new Attorney General.

One thing is clear from this action. The new Justice Department intends separate itself in every way possible from the last administration, and as fast as it possibly can.
