Shame, Embarrassment, Failure: Reince and Ryan have to go!!!

Shame. Embarrassment. Failure...

The establishment GOP was outed for lying to the American people last week in their attempt to ram down our throats a slightly less flawed version of comprehensive healthcare reform than the current law of the land known as Obamacare.

President Trump who pushed for this bill was misled in my opinion by 2 of DC's most prominent and powerful establishment figures: Former GOP Chairman and White House Chief of Staff Reince Preibus and Former Vice Presidential Candidate and Current Speaker of the House Paul Ryan.

Donald Trump came to the presidency admittedly less than an expert on the some of the issues but pledged to hire "the best people." The results up to this point have been uneven at best, disastrous at worst.

Trump had no control over members of the US House of Representatives electing Paul Ryan Speaker of the House. This position essentially makes Ryan the 2nd most powerful politician in the country after Trump. In the 2012 general election, conservatives saw the Mitt Romney/Paul Ryan ticket as symbolic of the big government failures that were leading to economic ruin domestically, with among other things, runaway debt and spending and rejected this ticket.

The people still wanted real change and behind a platform of repealing and replacing Obamacare with a truly free market solution the 2014 midterm election was a historic one for the party of Lincoln. The Senate came back into GOP control while the House of Representatives saw a republican dominance restored to levels not seen since the 1920's.

Many point to the Summer of 2013 and the theatrics of Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) as the turning point on the issue of healthcare in the United States. Most working class Americans were ready for a new solution that put the power back in the hands of the consumer vs. bureaucrats in DC that themselves were not subjected to the rules of the Affordable Healthcare Act.

Trump ran for President behind a platform of "draining the swamp" of the entrenched politicians and other shadowy figures in the DC power scene that have been lining their pockets at the expense of the American tax payer for decades. Based on his first weeks in office, I believe his intentions were pure. His initial executive orders showed a willingness and desire to truly keep his campaign promises to the American people. His downfall recently however, has been the result of his poor judgement in appointing Reince Preibus as Chief of Staff.

He could have made a different choice for such an important position. He created a new cabinet level position (Chief Whitehouse Strategist) for one of his key advisors, Steve Bannon, Former Breitbart Chief, who oversaw the final phase of his campaign. This was a crucial period in which Trump laid out the clearest explanation of his policy ideas in his famed Gettysburg address mere weeks before the election as well as gave spectacular performances in debates 2 and 3.

Someone in the mold of Bannon, if not Bannon himself would have had the foresight to prevent this disaster. Trump not only lost some support among pundits and online opinion shapers, but he alienated potential allies on the far right as he continues to evolve ideologically during this early stage of his presidency.
