Biden Administration Starts Rolling Back Trump’s Immigration Policies

President Joe Biden has already started on his apparent mission to undo the Trump presidency – especially when it comes to immigration. Biden immediately suspended all deportations on his first day in office, in a move called “a human response to four years of President Donald J. Trump’s assault on immigrants” by his allies. Democratic Senator Bob Menendez of New Jersey says Biden is acting on a Democrat “mandate” to “fix” an immigration system that was the cornerstone of “Trump’s hateful horror show.”

Biden’s America Second Policy

Even border deportations are a no-go right now. Anyone who shows up at the border are treated to free healthcare and housing and are given options to find friends and relatives already living in the country – legally or otherwise.

The Biden administration has at least banned air travel from over 30 countries as part of his COVID-19 response. Even people coming from countries not on the ban list must test negative for coronavirus before getting on the plane. They must also quarantine for seven days – at least – before having free reign of the country. These requirements do not apply to those coming across the border illegally it seems.

Another element of Biden’s immigration policy that has largely gone unnoticed is that Biden plans to provide employers with an unlimited supply of foreign workers. The government will, essentially, pay employers to hire non-Americans and bring them into the country.

There is currently a limit to how many American jobs can go to immigrants each year. Biden proposes that all foreign students studying in America will have the right to stay and work in the country for ten years, after which they will get a green card. Rather than offering good salaries and better working conditions to Americans, employers can offer foreign students green cards. There’s no cap on the number of foreign student workers, giving employers the power to hire as many international students as they want.

To add insult to injury, the government subsidizes employers who hire foreigners over Americans, including legal immigrants. Companies don’t pay payroll tax for foreign students, saving them as much as 8% per worker. Will any employer care about offering a minimum wage when they can dodge payroll tax?

With the midterm elections coming up next year, it’s interesting to see how Americans will respond to these changes. It’s been a rough year for America and things aren’t looking up any time soon. How will Americans feel about Biden and his promises to improve healthcare and the economy if there’s no positive change? Only time will tell.
