As our cities' infrastructure becomes increasingly dependant on interconnected devices and the internet, cybersecurity is becoming intertwined with public safety. However, Information Technology(IT) is advancing at such a pace that we are in a shortage of professionals in IT and cybersecurity fields. So what happens when city infrastructure depends on interconnected computer technology and not enough tech professionals to keep it safe? A city can essentially be held hostage:
The demand for IT professionals is only expected to grow over the years as computers, smartphones, and the internet becomes ingrained in our daily lives. The government, academic institutions and employers should offer incentives to motive prospective students and employees to pursue a career in IT. If the human capital does not catch up to the demand for information technology, we might see more severe and frequent events as shown in the video.
