Wednesday night saw President Trump posting two tweets, aimed at former Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, who Trump called “the world’s most overrated general.”
The World’s Most Overrated General
The president added that “Mad Dog” Mattis’ strength was never the military, “but rather personal public relations.” The fight between the two was sparked when the general called Trump divisive, saying that he is the first president who “does not even pretend to try” to unite Americans but is instead trying to “divide us.”
Probably the only thing Barack Obama & I have in common is that we both had the honor of firing Jim Mattis, the world’s most overrated General. I asked for his letter of resignation, & felt great about it. His nickname was “Chaos”, which I didn’t like, & changed to “Mad Dog”...

The president’s comments continue the feud between his former Cabinet members who have criticized their former boss after leaving the administration.
Trump previously called Mattis a Democrat before parting ways in 2018, lamenting the work of many who have tried to undermine his administration from within the government. Mattis’ anti-Trump comments come at a peculiar timing, as acting Defense Secretary Mark Esper is clashing with the administration over the call to deploy the US military under the Insurrection Act, in cities overrun by rioters and looters.
