2019 In Review: The Mueller Report

The special counsel assigned to Robert Mueller released a report that has been a player at the center of attention this year, with many concerns of Russian interference and eventually accusations that Trump collaborated with Russia to win 2016.

What’s In The Report?

Reading out the whole 448-page report, might be a lot for most people. But essentially, it deals with possible collusion between Trump and his 2016 campaign and Russia. With some of the president’s campaign advisers three years ago having  to supposedly having ties to Russia, and several instances of hacking that targeted Democrats, especially opponent Clinton. Many have people believed the election was undoubtedly influenced by Russia, with whom Trump was accused to have collaborated with to win. The report, however, showed no evidence of any such collusion or “conspiracy,"

Obstruction?

The second volume of the report focuses more on potential obstruction of justice during investigations. 10 episodes, in which Trump could have obstructed justice were examined in the report, with some examples being instructions to terminate Mueller from his position, perhaps to delay or cancel out the investigations entirely, and others to pressure then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions to curtail the investigation.

Despite that, Mueller never drew a conclusion from all the observations and findings, although he never said the president did not obstruct justice. Overall, the report is there, but no one is sure what to do with it yet, although it was initially thought it could be used to launch an impeachment proceeding against Trump. One was indeed launched, but not on the basis of the Mueller report, which pretty much leaves everything up to Congress:

“Congress has authority to prohibit a President’s corrupt use of his authority in order to protect the integrity of the administration of justice,” a note from the report reads.

We are now seeing the worst inclinations of a biased congress.
