Amy Coney Barrett took her historic oath as an Associate Supreme Court Justice on Monday.

Barrett Becomes 5th Woman to Join the Supreme Court

The ceremony was held on Monday, near the Rose Garden, where fellow Associate Justice, Clarence Thomas, handled the constitutional oath.

The judicial oath will be delivered by Chief Justice John Roberts on Tuesday.

Most of the assembled guests wore masks.

During the event that lasted 15 minutes, Amy Barrett stated she was "truly honored and humbled" to be part of that "rigorous confirmation process."

Earlier this month, Barrett attempted to stay away from the politics, saying the judge’s job is “to resist her policy preferences,” and that “It would be a dereliction of duty for her to give in to them."

Amy Barrett is the fifth woman in high court history and will start working only a week before the November election. The first press conference of Barrett and her colleagues will be on Friday, and on Monday, she will take her place on the bench. At the oath ceremony, President Trump pointed out the importance of Amy Barrett's Supreme Court confirmation.

Trump stated that Barrett "is one of our nation’s most brilliant legal scholars” and that “this is a momentous day for America, for the United States Constitution, and for the fair and impartial rule of law."

Although the Democrats boycotted Amy Barrett’s nomination on Thursday, the Senate Judiciary Committee approved it with a majority of 12 Republicans votes.

Just ahead of the Senate vote on Monday, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., issued a warning stating that “The American people will never forget this blatant act of bad faith" and that "it will go down as one of the darkest days in the 231-year history of the United States Senate.”
