Arctic Blast Across the US Breaks 100 Year Record

Records continue to get shattered as an arctic air mass goes around the US for a third day. With all-time low temperatures and heaps of snow, more states have had to issue warnings due to the dangerous weather.

Extreme Cold Temperature Breaks 100 Year Record in Multiple Cities

Some states saw temperature records as far as 100 years broken as temperatures reach an all-time low in over a hundred locations. In Birmingham, Alabama, cold temperatures beat the previous record set in 1911 by 4 degrees. Meanwhile, the city of St. Louis in Missouri went all the way down to 11 degrees. The Big Apple and towns across Ohio, Kansas and Florida have also set new records for low temperatures.

In some places, residents and authorities have had to dig out from a foot of snow. In turn, road conditions and visibility are getting much worse as the arctic mass progresses, with several car crashes already reported. Individuals are advised not to start up their cars, considering the dangerous situation.

“Visibility dropped as low as one-fourth of a mile at times... as heavy lake-effect snow squalls continued moving through northeastern Ohio,” Derek Witt, a meteorologist from AccuWeather said.

Tyler Roys, another meteorologist at AccuWeather, said that it’s not like such low temperatures have never been seen before in some of these cities, just not before Thanksgiving.
