Atlanta Mayor and Vice Presidential Hopeful Bottoms Contracts COVID-19

Atlanta Mayor and Joe Biden's potential VP running mate, Keisha Lance Bottoms, has been confirmed to have tested positive for COVID-19.

Bottoms Tests Positive

50-year-old Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms – the mayor of Atlanta, confirmed on Monday that she had tested positive for COVID-19. RT America’s Scottie Nell Hughes told Reactionary Times TV back in May that she thought Bottoms could possibly fill the VP vacancy and run along presumptive Democratic Presidential nominee Joe Biden.

Bottoms told MSNBC that she thought she and her family should test for the virus one more time due to her husband “sleeping since Thursday,” despite no clear symptoms, as both have allergies. Bottoms added that despite taking all the precautions to avoid infection, her diagnosis really “speaks to how contagious this virus is.”

Bottoms’ political stock and reputation has gone up recently amid the storm of protests in the nation following the killing of George Floyd on May 25, as well as the coronavirus pandemic. Bottoms was quick to criticize Republican Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp on how slow his stay-at-home order was and how quick he was to lift it.

Bottoms also issued a plea for peaceful protests as demonstrations have engulfed Atlanta. The fact that she often discusses the city’s civil rights history has won her applause from progressives, especially after firing the officers involved in the shooting of Rayshard Brooks.

Violence, on the other hand, has been running rampant in the city as the Wendy’s restaurant where Brooks was shot was overtaken by armed protesters recently. In addition, an innocent 8-year-old girl was shot dead near the site on Saturday.

Police broke up the roadblocks near the restaurant on Monday, although Gov. Kemp has said that 1,000 National Guard troops are being mobilized to the city after the massive surge in violence.
