C-SPAN Commentator Steve Scully Lied About Twitter Hack

C-SPAN political editor Steve Scully was suspended after he lied about his Twitter being hacked. Scully was set to moderate the canceled second debate between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, which went viral after a post sent from his Twitter account showed he had tried to contact the former communications director of the White House.

Motives Behind Scully's Lies

Following his suspension, Steve Scully released his first statement addressing the controversy to CNN, saying that "For several weeks, I was subjected to relentless criticism on social media and in conservative news outlets regarding my role as moderator for the second presidential debate, including attacks aimed directly at my family."

Scully added that the situation culminated on October 8 when he heard the President attacking him on national television. Scully stated that "Out of frustration, I sent a brief tweet addressed to Anthony Scaramucci. The next morning when I saw that this tweet had created a controversy, I falsely claimed that my Twitter account had been hacked."

The C-SPAN statement revealed the network and the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) were informed about the political editor’s on Wednesday and they were "very saddened by this news and do not condone his actions."

The US president wrote on Twitter that "The Debate was Rigged!” and “The Trump Campaign was not treated fairly by the 'Commission'."
