Tauya Nenguke, a 22-year-old Chick-fil-A employee, managing a location in Chula Vista, California, is now a local hero for saving a life after a customer went into cardiac arrest in the restaurant’s parking lot.
The worker has a reputation for going above and beyond and while performing his usual job duties Wednesday night, he saw a man collapsed in the parking lot. As seen on the surveillance footage, Nenguke immediately rushed to the man’s side, seeing his friends attempting to perform CPR on him.
“He wasn’t breathing or anything. His eyes were rolled back into his head. I knew this guy was out. I didn’t know how long. I just started chest compressions immediately,” Nenguke said in an interview with KGTV.
Until paramedics arrived to the scene, the Chick-fil-A manager had taught the man’s friends how to do chest compressions so they can take turns while Nenguke was performing CPR.
“There wasn’t any hesitation on my part. I knew that was the place where God placed me at that time,” he said. “This was honestly a really big calling to be in healthcare because it was like instinct took over,” Nenguke added, reaffirming his desire to go to a nursing school.
His co-worker later informed him that paramedics said that what he did saved the unconscious man’s life. Nenguke now plans on starting classes early next year, currently applying to nursing programs.
