At the U.S. Conference of Mayors’ virtual winter meeting, CISA Director Brandon Wales stated that “CISA is committed to working with organizations at all levels to protect their networks from the threat of ransomware.”
Ransomware Prevention Training and Incident Communication
Wales added that their initiative involves developing and sharing “timely information about the varied and disruptive ransomware threats” with public and private sector partners in order to protect their systems.
Under the awareness program, CISA aims to teach organizations across different sectors how to prevent ransomware attacks and how to issue ransomware concerns. The campaign’s main focus will be the K-12 institutions, which have suffered severe ransomware attacks since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic.
On Thursday, Wales called on the mayors present at the conference to assist CISA in promoting the new awareness campaign, urging them not to pay ransoms demanded by hackers.
Currently, cybersecurity experts’ greatest concern is related to companies dealing with COVID-19 research and vaccine distribution lines. According to Brandon Wales, last month, CISA was working with the FBI and the National Security Agency on informing them about the cyber risks in that sector.
