Communist China Attempts to Reframe Coronavirus Narrative

Chinese President Xi Jinping flexes his success in an attempt to change the ongoing narrative of the coronavirus outbreak.

China Almost Virus Free

President Xi even went as far as to tour around the starting point of the virus – Wuhan, in a victory walk meant as a message to the rest of the world – one to show China’s power and ability to deal with the COVID-19 that Xi once labeled a “devil.”

“Now things are getting better and he wants to show that his leadership has been a success. The messaging is that we should see the West’s response as bumbling and incompetent,” Chinese politics professor Minxin Pei told The Washington Post.

Despite China’s initial sluggish handling of the virus, which led to criticism from nations all around the world including the United States, after more than 80,000 cases in the country, China’s National Health Commission announced that the mainland only had five new cases of the virus on Friday – the second in a row with less than 10 new cases and a sign that the coronavirus is soon to be gone.

China’s dealing with the virus is the perfect opportunity to send its message across the world and boast its strength, with President Xi offering to help other nations in containing the virus, with three teams of Chinese medical workers already on the frontlines in Italiy, and a promised $20 million to help the World Health Organization improve poor countries’ public health systems.
