The anti-gun left will say things like, “We can all agree that we don’t want crazy people getting guns.” On the surface, that sounds like a reasonable statement, but the process in which the left wants to categorize people as “crazy” is lost in the conversation. This is by design.
Any time a leftist says “we can all agree on…,” or “the vast majority of people agree…,” they are creating a distraction. Sometimes known as a Red Herring, this strategy is used to direct the focus away from the real goal. Using this particular type of wording also appeals to our natural desire to be “agreeable” or the inherent need some have to be accepted as part of the “majority.” Often times we will see people follow the crowd, even when the outcome is dangerous or the actions criminal, just so they can be part of what is perceived as the majority or popular view. An example would be the left-wing riots we saw break out across America during the summer of 2020 and again in early 2021. These human tendencies require a much more in-depth explanation but are summarized in this article. Keep in mind, the psychological tactics people use on others are most often the very tactics that would influence them. Otherwise, why else would they believe the strategy would work at all and why else would they use it? In the case of Red Flag Gun Confiscations for instance, the goal is to get you to agree with them on the idea of “crazy” people not getting guns, in the hopes of tricking you into supporting their unconstitutional gun-grabbing tactics. First you agree on “crazy people,” then you agree with their solution.
One of the Left’s solutions to “crazy people” having guns is the “Extreme Risk Protection Order” (aka Red Flag Law). Red Flag Laws have been an immoral fantasy of the left since they started SWATing. Many may remember SWATing as the precursor to Red Flag Laws. SWATing was a tactic the anti-gun crowd would use in which they would fabricate a story, making gun-owners into a “suspicious” or “dangerous” person, only to get law-enforcement engaged. This was a way for fearful, or often spiteful, anti-gunners to make life difficult for gun-owners without being held accountable for their intentionally false accusations.
Red Flag Laws are a great example of something the political left would love to implement nationwide because it violates gun-owners’ due process and other Constitutional rights while giving the anti-gun crowd leverage and ability to literally take your guns from you with nothing more than a mere accusation. In many States, these accusations can be made anonymously.
Former Vice President Biden is desperately trying to push a national Red Flag Law by incentivizing States with tax-payer funds to ignore the due-process rights of other American citizens and take guns without a crime ever being committed. The theory behind Red Flag Laws is to take guns on the assumption that the person may or may not commit a crime. This would be similar to confiscating cell phones on the assumption that someone may or may not text while driving.
To put Biden’s Red Flag Law into perspective, here is a section of the 4th and 5th Amendments to the Constitution outlining unreasonable searches and seizures and due-process rights, both of which are violated by Red Flag Laws.
Amendment IV
The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
Amendment V
No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.
From Joe Biden: “These laws allow police or a family member to petition a court in their jurisdiction and say, I want you to temporarily remove from the following people any firearm they may possess because they’re a danger and a crisis.” “I want to see a national Red Flag Law and legislation to incentivize States to enact their own Red Flag Laws.” - Joe Biden
When did it become the right of people to disarm other people without a crime having been committed? Should something like this be signed into law, how often would we see ex-spouses, angry neighbors, anti-gun professors, disgruntled employees and dis-satisfied customers, among others, turning in their fellow gun-owning citizens in an attempt to gain revenge or inflict unjust punishment?
A national Red Flag Law coupled with a gun-registry (created through “universal background checks”) would finally give Democrats the list and locations of all registered guns along with the confiscation tool they want. This two-part formula is their ultimate gun-grabbing dream.
