The United States is still in mourning over the recent mass shootings in El Paso and Ohio, but the Democrats are wasting no time in politicizing the tragedy for their 2020 agenda. The shootings occurred in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio. Between the two shootings, a total of 29 people lost their lives.
California Senator Kamala Harris has come forward to support the idea of federal gun licensing in response to the shootings. When asked by CNN anchor Jake Tapper if she liked the idea of gun licensing first proposed by Democratic presidential candidate Cory Booker, she said that she thought it was a great idea.
Booker outlined his plans for gun control in an article published by Medium. Booker essentially said that if people need a license to drive a car, they should require a permit to purchase a gun.
"Just as a driver's license demonstrates a person's eligibility and proficiency to drive a car, a gun license demonstrates that a person is eligible and can meet certain basic safety and training standards necessary to own a gun," he said.
His plan would call for applicants to submit fingerprints and provide basic background information, as well as complete a basic gun safety training course. The FBI would conduct a background check on the applicant and, assuming nothing went wrong, they would be granted their license. Licenses would need to be renewed every five years.
The El Paso attacker wrote a manifesto in which he described their hatred for Hispanics and claimed he wanted to prevent a "Hispanic invasion of Texas." The suspects also said that they held these beliefs before he ran his presidential campaign.
Despite the fact the attackers held their twisted beliefs before Trump, many other candidates have taken to blaming Trump, either through news outlets or through Twitter. Democratic Governor of Washington Jay Inslee tweeted wrote a tweet, stating that the president is encouraging white nationalist and endangering Americans.
It's really convenient for liberals to blame Trump for racially motivated shootings during his presidency. Did we forget when Dylan Roof killed nine people during a mass shooting at the Emanuel Church in 2015 or when Jeverly Wong killed 13 at an American Civic Association center for immigrants? All of these and more happened during the Obama Administration, yet nobody pointed fingers at Obama. To say that white nationalists have been emboldened by Trump is just yellow press cherry-picking.
If we look at the mass shootings that have happened in the last 12, you will notice that the majority were not racial motivated. The majority of them involved distraught people who dealt with their mental and emotional issues by killing innocent Americans.
The real problem in American is not a "gun problem" but a mental health problem. By placing the blame on Trump and the constitutional right to bear arms, the mainstream media detracts us from the real issue at hand, which is the mental and emotional well-being of the American people.
