Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren announced on Thursday that her oldest brother, Donald Reed Herring, has passed away due to the coronavirus.
Warren expressed her gratitude to the nurses and staff who took care of her brother, although she also shared her sadness over the fact that no family could be there with him and no proper funeral could be held. Warren has been one of the more vocal critics of the administration’s handling of the pandemic, but she never revealed publicly that her brother was ill.
Herring, joined the Air Force at 19 and “spent his career in the military, including five and a half years off and on in combat in Vietnam,” Warren said, adding that he was a natural leader – a charming and funny man, who could “light up everyone around him” with a simple smile.
