Florida Officers Raid House of COVID-19 Data Scientist Rebekah Jones

Florida police searched the home of scientist Rebekah Jones on Monday. The ex Florida Department of Health staffer created the COVID-19 case tracker, however, shortly after that she was dismissed from her position.

The video footage, which Jones shared on Twitter, shows armed policemen raiding her house. The scientist explained the cops “pointed a gun” in her face and at her kids, and opined that Gov. Ron DeSantis “sent the Gestapo” to her house.

Jones also tweeted claims that such things happen “to scientists who do their job honestly” and “who speak truth to power.”

According to the spokeswoman of FDLE Gretl Plessinger, Rebekah Jones’ house was raided on a search warrant and during the raid, the police confiscated computer equipment.

A statement by FDLE Commissioner Rick Swearingen read that last month, the agency has begun an investigation “following a complaint by Florida Department of Health that a person illegally hacked into their emergency alert system.”

Swearingen added that before entering Jones’ house, the officers “knocked and called Ms. Jones both announcing the search warrant and encouraging her to cooperate,” however, she “refused to come to the door for 20 minutes and hung-up on agents.”

The FDLE Commissioner rejected any weapons being pointed at anyone in the house and stated that any evidence “will be referred to the State Attorney for prosecution as appropriate.”

Meanwhile, Gov. Ron DeSantis said that Rebekah Jones was not the “chief architect” of Florida’s coronavirus dashboard and added the scientist was dismissed from her position due to disobedience.
