During a White House summit on Operation Warp Speed, Donald Trump issued an executive order to confirm that Americans will be vaccinated against COVID-19 ahead of other nations.
An administration official said that the President’s order will make easier the coordination between the US government agencies who assist foreign countries in receiving the coronavirus vaccine.
The official also added that “Once we have ensured the ability to meet the needs of the American people, it would be then in the interest of the United States to facilitate international access to COVID vaccines.”
At the White House summit on Tuesday, Donald Trump praised his administration's achievements in vaccine development and congratulated the people involved.
Recently, pharmaceutical companies Pfizer and Moderna announced 95% efficacy in phase three clinical trials of their vaccines, which distributed to health care staffers and elderly people as soon as the FDA authorizes them. The general public should receive the immunization not earlier than the spring.
According to Johns Hopkins University, since the beginning of the pandemic, over 15 million Americans have been infected by the virus.
