Keanu Reeves Set to Star in a New Matrix Movie

Keanu Reeves is about to re-enter The Matrix as he’s set to star in the latest Matrix movie. Warner Brothers are rebooting the classic franchise with a fourth film. The movie will feature Keanu Reeves reprising his role of Neo and also see Carrie-Anne Moss return as Trinity.

Lana Wachowski, who co-created the original movies, is on board to write, direct, and produce the new Matrix movie. Toby Emmerich, the chairman of Warner Bros. Pictures Group, spoke highly of Lana and what it meant to be working with her.

“We could not be more excited to be re-entering The Matrix with Lana. Lana is a true visionary – a singular and original creative filmmaker – and we are thrilled that she is writing, directing, and producing this new chapter in the Matrix universe.”

Lana herself is excited to be working on the movie. She added to Emmerich’s statements, saying, “Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I‘m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”

The screenplay for the new movie is by Lana Wachowski, David Mitchell, and Alexandar Hemon.

There’s more good news for Matrix fans too. In celebration of the 20th anniversary, Warner Bros. is re-releasing original Matrix series to the cinemas. 20th-anniversary screenings are set to be held at AMC Theaters across the United States from August 30.

This new movie would be the first in the franchise for over 16 years. The Matrix began back in 1999 with the original The Matrix. The sequels – The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions were released in 2003. The movies have grossed over $1.6 billion at the global box office.

Reeves recently wrapped up the third movie in the John Wick franchise with John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. The film grossed $320 million worldwide, making it the most successful in the franchise so far, and had a subtle nod to the Matrix that may have been more prescient than Reeves thought.

There’s no word on what the new official name of the upcoming movie yet. Given how these things go though, The Matrix Rebooted might end up being a viable title.
