Liberal Anxiety Reaches Critical Mass Over 2020 Candidates

Major weaknesses with the 2020 candidates bring anxiety to Democrats as they ponder who to support, or if there even is a viable candidate.

"You can imagine much stronger candidates," Democratic National Committee member Elaine Kamarck said to The Washington Post, adding that she would back Sen. Sherrod Brown or retired Navy Adm. William H. McRaven if they could be convinced to suit up and run in the election.

To begin with, Bernie Sanders’ and Elizabeth Warren's agendas are looking perhaps a tad too liberal, even for the Democrats’ taste. Furthermore, former Vice President Joe Biden's fundraising lag and recent problems, which came about with the whistleblower complaint and investigations into Ukraine, raise concerns.

"Since the last debate, just anecdotally, I've had five or six people ask me: 'Is there anybody else?'" Democrat Leah Daughtry said.

Speculation has arisen that Hillary Clinton may be an option for Democrats in the race, potentially joining for a rematch against Trump.

"Ultimately, it's unlikely she would do it. But put it this way: It isn't zero. And does she think about it all the time? Absolutely," one source close to Clinton told The Washington Post.

"Her view is: I ran against this guy, I know how to do this. She has battle scars to prove it," another source said.
