A Massive malware campaign has been reportedly linked to cases of hijacked Firefox, Chrome, and Edge web browsers. According to Microsoft, the cyberattack was well-planned out and the technical details are very complicated.
What is Adrozek Malware?
The experts claim that the malware has used several venues to conduct the attack and PC users should expect various issues with their browsers, such as unexpected search results, unauthorized browser extensions, and pop-up advertisements containing malicious scripts for stealing personal credentials and affecting the Dynamic-link Libraries (DLLs).
A statement released by the Microsoft 365 Defender Research Team not only illustrates the problem but also relates it to a ‘persistent malware campaign’ named Adrozek, which is a family of malicious browser modifiers capable of stealing users’ sensitive data by using affiliate advertising.
The so-called ‘polymorphic’ attacks are considered new, and very dangerous and adapted to current technology. Fortunately, Microsoft claims these attacks are preventable.
When installed onto the system, the latest version of Windows 10 Microsoft Defender eventually blocks Adrozek, however, users who have already been infected with the malware should fully reinstall their web browsers.
