Minneapolis Protests: National Guard Deployed to Curb Civil Unrest

The Minnesota National Guard wrote on Twitter late Thursday night, announcing that it’s activating over 500 soldiers to St. Paul, Minneapolis and the surroundings in an effort to calm the ongoing riots that have been growing more and more violent, with at least one death reported so far and countless buildings robbed and torched.

As of 10:30 p.m. Thursday night, officials say that rioters have breached the Minneapolis Police Department’s Third Precinct, with videos surfacing on Twitter showing the building on fire.

“Protesters forcibly entered the building and have ignited several fires,” Minneapolis police spokesperson John Elder said in a statement, noting that the building was evacuated shortly after 10 p.m.
