No Blue Wave as Democrats Lose Key Seats in the House

Republicans got back key positions in New Mexico, South Florida, South Carolina, Oklahoma,  and Iowa, including one of the chamber's longest-serving members in Minnesota. At the same time, the Dems won back two seats from the Republicans, and the GOP candidates got some key seats in Texas.

“Americans Rejected Socialism and Voted for Freedom”

Prior to the election, the Dems aimed to win the majority they had built over the past two years, however, the "blue wave" from 2018 did not last that long

“We thought we were seeing something like a blue wave across the country that would push several of these seats in the Democratic direction. And obviously, that didn't happen,” the expert on congressional politics Steven S. Smith stated.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy said that "Americans rejected socialism and voted for freedom," and tweeted "Nancy Pelosi: you've been put on notice."

The ballot count is unofficial until authorities investigate the district's returns. If the absentee and provisional votes are received at the county auditors' offices by Nov. 9, they can be counted before the results are certified.
