Out of Control Sotomayor Breaks SCOTUS Rule in Immigration Case

Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor is the first ever member of the nations highest court to break new “two-minute rule” regarding questions.

The new rule states that the court’s nine justices must allow lawyers to bring out all their arguments without being interrupted for two full minutes, before asking any questions.

However, during an immigration-related case on Wednesday, Sotomayor just couldn’t control herself, it seems.

“Even if they were applying to a college?” Sotomayor interrupted Paul Hughes, who was examining whether it’s possible for states to prosecute immigrants with information from employee verification forms.

“I’m sorry, you can answer that question after your time has ...” Chief Justice John Roberts said.

“I’m sorry,” Sotomayor again interrupted, before Roberts could finish the sentence.

The mistake almost happened a second time when Sotomayor began asking a question too early again, however, this time she stopped herself without anyone having to say a word. Maybe a good reference point for the court justice would be Justice Clarence Thomas – who in 2016 posed his first questions in 10 years.
