Rand Comes Around on Pompeo

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) tends to make decisions that have both supporters and detractors scratching their heads at different times.

At times, on budgetary issues, he is willing to hold the Senate hostage in order to make the case for fiscal sanity in a public forum for the American people to absorb. He was steadfastly against the Republican trainwreck American Healthcare Act last Spring as he stood alongside Texas Senator Ted Cruz in his opposition to the 600 Billion Dollar subsidy for the Healthcare Insurance Industry.

He Attempted to block what would become a late night heist of the American people earlier this year, on a 2 year spending orgy that had Hurricane relief for Florida, Texas and Puerto Rico tucked alongside items such as Planned Parenthood and Sanctuary City funding.

But at Times Senator Paul has been a tough legislator to gauge. One example is his almost Democratic stance on Voter ID's. I don't know if this is an attempt to disassociate from an inaccurate perception that his father, longtime Texas congressman Ron Paul was a racist, based on a newsletter he generated in his younger days. It is a common sense issue and one where common sense seems to have abandoned the Kentucky Senator.

He also upset many anti-establishment, conservative types with his endorsement of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. McConnell is the epitome of the swamp creature establishment that is currently destroying our country.

Another budding example was his initial opposition to the confirmation of Secretary of State nominee Mike Pompeo. Claiming he received "assurances" that Pompeo was pulling out of Afghanistan, he changed his position.

"I came to the point of view I would give director Pompeo a chance and I think we'll hear more from him that hopefully will be heartening to those of the view we need to have less war," Paul said Tuesday.

Republican unity will be key as the GOP attempts to portray a unified front in advance of the 2018 midterm elections. Bringing on and keeping the libertarian leaning Paul in the fold will be Key.
