Salesforce Acquires Slack Messaging App for $27 Billion

On Tuesday, Salesforce announced they will obtain the popular business communication platform Slack. In this way, the cloud computing company confirmed the circulating rumors of the biggest software acquisition they have made so far.

Slack and Salesforce are among the most popular companies in the software business. Over the past years, Slack alone has gained over 12 million daily users and its market cap value reached approximately $25 billion. 

“A Match Made in Heaven”

According to the press announcement, purchasing Slack will cost Salesforce $27.7 billion and “Slack shareholders will receive $26.79 in cash and 0.0776 shares of Salesforce common stock for each Slack share, representing an enterprise value of approximately $27.7 billion based on the closing price of Salesforce’s common stock on November 30, 2020.”

Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, “This is a match made in heaven” and believes the two companies will shape the future of enterprise software. At the same time, Slack CEO Stewart Butterfield stated that “The opportunity we see together is massive” and he believes that “this is the most strategic combination in the history of software.”
