Schumer vs Trump in Battle Over Stimulus Check Signature

Schumer believes Trump is using Pandemic as an opportunity to “promote his own political interests.”

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is pushing for new “No PR Act,” to prevent President Donald Trump from putting his name on future stimulus payments.

Schumer vs Trump

Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer plans on pushing for his new so-called “No PR Act,” which aims to prohibit federal dollars going to any materials promoting the names of either Trump or Vice President Mike Pence.

In short, Schumer believes that President Trump is using the Coronavirus pandemic as an opportunity to “promote his own political interests.” Thus, his “No PR Act” would put an end to what he refers to as Trump’s “exploitation,” and leave Trump’s signature off of future stimulus checks.

The Senate Minority Leader’s proposal comes after an order by the Treasury Department, stating that all stimulus checks sent out by the IRS for the $2 trillion package must have Trump’s name on them. Critics think that adding the signature makes it seem like the money was distributed solely because of President Trump.

Schumer’s plan also comes at the same time as other Democrats’ new ideas and plans of overseeing Trump and his administration’s handling of the pandemic and distribution of money for stimulus packages.

Last week, President Trump signed a Congress-approved $484 billion Coronavirus package, which provides financial aid to small businesses, hospitals and further expanding testing capacity in the nation.
