So-Long Spartacus: Booker to Drop WH Bid if He Fails to Raise Money

A possible end could be seen to Cory Booker’s presidential campaign by Tuesday if he does not meet his fundraising goal by then.

Although the New Jersey senator said on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday that he had an “avalanche of support”, he was still $150,000 short from his goal, even though he is qualified for the October debate of Democratic candidates, as well as passed the requirement for November’s debate – 165,000 unique donors. A possible failure in raising enough funds could mean the end for Booker’s campaign.

“I wouldn’t be running if I didn’t think I should be president, not him,” Booker commented about Joe Biden, another Democratic candidate he has clashed with before, however this time, Booker stood in defense of Biden, saying Trump’s accusations and investigations on Biden and his son Hunter were unfounded.

The allegations “should in no way affect the vice president in his pursuit of the nomination. This can in no way besmirch his character, his honor and his incredible service to this country over decades,” Booker said, taking a firm position that the focus point should be the Trump family.

“I’m watching what’s going on with the Trump family right now and Trump properties, and I just find that deeply offensive to just any kind of independent sense of what’s honorable, ethical, not to mention consistent with the emoluments clause. I just don’t think children of president and vice presidents during an administration should be out there doing that,” Booker said, referencing a clause in the Constitution, one which forbids accepting payments from foreign governments. The Democratic candidate also said rules would be tightened if he was to become president.
