Trump's Border Wall Takes a Hit as District Judge Blocks $89 Million in Funds

Trump’s Wall takes another slap to the face with a court barring the diversion of funds from one project to the other.

Judge Favors Submarine Base Over Border Security

US District Judge Barbara Rothstein’s ruling this Thursday is yet another setback to the president’s US southern border plans, as the administration was barred from relocating $89 million from a submarine base construction project to fund the wall at Mexico’s border.

The aforementioned funds were meant to be used to construct a pier at the Bangor naval base, where the Trident ballistic subs rest at, one of 127 military projects approved by Congress. The administration attempted to redirect the funding for this project in order to acquire the necessary capital to make Trump’s Wall a reality, the Washington state lawsuit reads.

Judge Rothstein wrote that she doesn’t think that anything takes priority for Washington over the safety of “nuclear-powered submarines carrying nuclear warheads.. when traveling through its waters.”

The White House did not immediately comment on the issue, although Washington State Attorney General Bob Ferguson expressed his satisfaction in the decision, saying he can’t wait for “this $89 million being used the way Congress intended.”
