The second round of hearings on Tuesday for ongoing impeachment inquiry saw Tim Morrison and Kurt Volker’s testimonies being a great aid to Republicans and perhaps a step towards ending this “circus” as Rep. Devin Nunes described the process.
Volker, Ukraine, and a Big Blow to Dems
Republicans, as well as the president himself, celebrated Tuesday’s hearings, as the witnesses brought about fundamental problems in the case and perhaps proved that this is, in fact, just a witch hunt to try to get something on Trump.
Morrison and Volker were asked several times if they had ever been asked to bribe or extort anyone, including if there were any signs or obvious references of a quid pro quo or bribery during the infamous July 25 call between Trump and Ukrainian President Zelensky, to which both witnesses said very clearly that there was no such thing.
Regarding the aid, which was withheld, Volker said he saw nothing improper, instead suggesting that it was most likely hesitation on Trump’s side due to corruption. “Bribery” was brought about a second time, but Volker told the committee that Trump never linked any investigations into the gas company Burisma or the Bidens to the military aid.
Another curious fact that Volker revealed was that initially he didn’t even realize the Burisma-Biden connection, and if he had, that might have raised some objections, but despite that, he said that he had absolutely no problem at all with the U.S. pushing for Ukraine to investigate Burisma, if corruption was there:
“It has long been U.S. policy under multiple administrations to urge Ukraine to investigate and fight internal corruption.” - Kurt Volker
Rep. Devin Nunes, who’s repeatedly criticized the inquiry, also had some funny words to begin the hearings:
“Welcome back to Act 2 of today’s circus, ladies and gentlemen,” he said, making fun of the Democrats’ impeachment effort, which so far, has pretty much had no solid basis for a proper case or evidence of any wrongdoing.
A great day for Republicans, a great day for our Country!
