Watch Out For the Fake DHL Text Message That Steals Your Identity

DHL is one of the most recognized names in delivery. It's only natural that you would feel safe if you received a text message from the company. However, it's better to be safe than sorry in a world where anyone can send or receive a fake DHL text message. These text messages lure recipients into becoming fraud and scam victims and should be avoided at all costs.

DHL regularly sends out text message alerts to the people subscribed to their service. However, sometimes scammers are able to take advantage of this legitimate service by sending unsolicited text messages pretending to be DHL or their partners.

These messages are meant to deceive recipients into visiting altered websites and supplying personal information. Personal information is then sold to scammers and used for identity theft. In addition, these messages are fake and cannot be relied on. Scammers may use them to convince recipients that they are legitimate DHL employees who need to take action immediately. One of the most common threats of this kind is the phone number that appears in the fake text message. It may resemble a legitimate number but callers can easily change their numbers by simply calling a phone number associated with DHL

To avoid being lured into scams, don't click on any links in text messages that you aren't expecting, even if the sender appears to be someone you know. If you still wish to follow up with the person who sent you a text message, call them using their number directly from your phone's contacts or attempt to call them through a landline.

What Are Text Message Scams?

Text message scams are fake text messages sent by scammers using DHL's name to con people out of personal information. The messages are a common form of online fraud, with the most common method being phishing via email. Text message scams can also be directed towards businesses in order to steal identity and financial information or mislead them into believing that their company is at risk for certain harms.

How Can I Protect Against Text Message Scams?

You can protect yourself against text message scams by following the tips listed below:

1. Don't click on any links in text messages that you aren't expecting, even if the sender appears to be someone you know.  Even if it is a trusted source, have a second thought before clicking; scammers are increasingly using methods like social engineering to convince people to visit certain websites and give away personal information.  Instead of clicking on any link, call that person using their number directly from your phone's contacts or attempt to call them through a landline.

2. If you do click on a link in a text message and end up at the wrong website, delete the message as soon as possible.  Scammers are increasingly using text message phishing to lure people into becoming victims.  If you clicked on something that you were not expecting, quickly delete the message as soon as possible.

3. Don't expect to receive a text message alert from DHL.  As mentioned before, these messages are meant to inform you of shipping news or special offers.  If you do not intend on receiving these messages, change your DHL account settings or unsubscribe from them through their website.  If you're still unsure, call the company directly and ask them to verify whether it is a legitimate text message or whether the information they are sending out is accurate.

Text message scams have become increasingly popular due to the fact that attackers can send large numbers of text messages. It's better to err on the side of caution and avoid these messages at all costs. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
