What is the Biopass RAT?

What is A RAT (Remote Access Trojan)?

A Remote Access Trojan (RAT) is a specific type of Trojan horse. Unlike other Trojans, this type of program remains inactive and hidden for some time until the owner commands it to activate itself.

The RAT takes control over the system and gives access to other people on a network or internet connection that allows them to use the computer. The RAT provides complete remote control of an individual’s computer while remaining in charge of installing spyware applications such as keyloggers, screen capture tools and data loggers to invade privacy.

Although many people are concerned about these programs, they are not illegal because they do not harm any person's property or capture banking information information without their knowledge. They are very useful and effective, especially for members of the IT and corporate world.

Most RATs are designed to be used by network administrators instead of individual users.
Some RATs have custom interfaces that allow them to be configured to provide additional features such as taking control of cameras, computer microphones and web cams.

How Do RATs Spread?

RATs spread in many ways, such as when a network administrator downloads a program called a ‘network monitor’ onto the computer network to detect and debug connection problems. This particular monitor is often disguised as legitimate software and silently installs RATs onto the computers of anyone who uses the network, whether they are authorized to use it or not.

How Does Biopass RAT Work?

Biopass means that a user's biometric data is passed through the RAT and authenticated using the device to confirm identity. Biopass RAT works by identifying various biometric parameters such as finger, voice or facial recognition data and can be used on any type of device, including mobile phones. Once a user's biometric data is identified, the RAT can then be authorized to take control of the computer. It can even take control of webcams and microphones to record conversations and information from them.

How to Remove Biopass RAT

The RAT can be removed by following the steps below.

1) Uninstall the RAT in Control Panel: "Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features"
2) Delete associated files from C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\.
3) Delete associated registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT \CurrentVersion-Uninstall Registry Key.
4) Delete associated files from C:\Users\<username>\.<program name> and C:\ProgramData < program name>.

How to Protect My Computer From Remote Access Trojans

An individual can protect their computer from remote access trojans by removing all unnecessary software, limiting internet access to trusted sites, and changing settings on the computer.
