A California sheriff’s deputy was shot Wednesday in what was described as a planned out ambush on a Paso Robles police station.
Active Shooter at Large
San Luis Obispo County Ian Parkinson described some of the events that transpired, saying that a shooter opened fire around 3:45 a.m. in a Paso Robles police station, shooting the deputy in the head, leaving him in serious condition, as the deputy’s partner dragged him away and returned fire.
“We feel that this was an ambush, that he planned it, that he intended for officers to come out of the police department and to assault them,” Parkinson added.
Investigators have been searching for the shooter, warning anyone in the Paso Robles downtown area that he remains at large. A man was also found shot to death near railroad tracks a couple of blocks away from the station, in which the firefight took place, most likely related to the other shooting.
The Paso Robles Police Department later released a photo of the suspect – a man in his 20s or 30s.

The incident comes after more than two weeks of nationwide protests against racism and police brutality, which were ignited by the death of African-American George Floyd at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer.
