California Sonoma Wildfire Causes Massive Evacuations

Hundreds of residents evacuated their homes as fire scorches 10,000 acres in California, reported by the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

The Kincade Fire, which started at 9 p.m. Wednesday, spread through an area larger than 5,000 acres within three hours, calling for evacuations in the River Rock Casino, the entire of Geyserville, and perhaps more as the fire continues to spread. Two evacuation centers have been set up by the American Red Cross, however danger is present all around for more than 25 million people in Northern and Southern California. Strong winds, low humidity, and soaring temperatures increase the rate at which the fire spreads.

The fire started on the very same day that another round of intentional power cuts to specifically prevent sparking wildfires were done by California’s largest utility, with blackouts continuing at least through Thursday in parts of the 17 counties.

“This is why we issued evacuation orders. Be safe, Sonoma County,” words, accompanying a video by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, showing the fast-moving blaze and why residents should be very careful.

A tweet by Nicholas McCarthy described the burned residue as “pyrometeors” and also said ash was “falling like snow.”

With the Kincade Fire in Northern California and another fire gaining ground in the San Bernardino County of Southern California, danger is all around the state. Even though a large number of firefighters have been dispatched to combat the flames, containment is a huge issue, with local administration urging residents to evacuate and be safe.
