A Boeing 737 skidded off the runway in Jacksonville, Florida and ended up in a Florida river. The chartered military plane was leaving Guantanamo Bay off the coast of Cuba and had 136 passengers onboard. All the passengers are safe and accounted for save for some injuries. First responders from Jacksonville’s Sheriff’s Department and Fire Rescue rushed to the scene and escorted the passengers to safety on a rescue boat.
It is unknown what led to the plane to skid off the runway. A statement released by Boeing states they are currently investigating the issue. Furthermore, the National Transportation Safety Board sent investigators to find the cause of the accident.
