Dan Perkins: Why Will Democrats Not Take an Impeachment Vote?

By Dan Perkins:

If the House passes an impeachment vote, the leader of the Senate, Mitch McConnell, has already said there will be a trial. The procedure will be much different than in the House so far. The House will have the role of prosecutor; the senators will be the jury, and the chief justice of the Supreme Court will be the trial judge. The President has his team of lawyers, and they will be able to call witnesses to testify under oath.

I want to show several examples of why a trial would be a bad idea for the Democrats:

Unlike the House investigation, the Republicans will be able to call witnesses and to cross-examine witnesses called by the prosecution (Democrats).

Potential Witnesses:

  • The whistleblower
  • Chairman Schiff
  • John Brennan
  • James Comey
  • James Clapper
  • Barack Obama
  • CIA Inspector General
  • Hillary Clinton
  • And perhaps many more

The Democrats in the House have put punitive limitations on what the Republicans can ask, and the witnesses they can call. None of those limitations will be in play in the Senate. Let me suggest that the theater in the Senate trial would be more interesting than the staging in the House. If a trial does happen, I hope and believe the theater will be compelling, and many millions of Americans will watch the trial vs. the House amateur theater.

Let me point out another risk to the Democrats  with a trial: the viewing audience would be immense, many times larger than the House hearings. With the Republicans in control and with Republican witnesses such as Chairman Schiff, the creditability of the left and the press will come under fire. This is a significant point; it is precisely what Nancy Pelosi has feared all along because the Democratic ethics, honesty, and lack of integrity would be on full display, and I believe it would cost them dearly. The defeat would damage the Democratic party for years to come. The Democrats have forgotten that the vast majority of Americans believe in fairness and that one is innocent until proven guilty. The combination of the Democratic leadership trying to overturn the will of the people and the rise of the socialist and communists on the left is a bad combination for Democrats.

I thought that given the importance of the hearings that the Democrats would have brought in Steven Spielberg to produce them. He is excellent in making people believe fiction is reality, and the Democrats definitely need his help.

Unlike the Democrats, the Republicans have better players, and one of the best is the congressman from Ohio, who was brought in as the clean-up man, Jim Jordan. I believe that if the Republicans retake the House in 2020, Jim Jordan will be the new Speaker, and he will be a major candidate for the Republican nomination for President in 2024.

This has been an unusual year for the left. They finally told the truth to the American people that they believe we are basically not capable of making decisions and they, the elite, have to make them for us. They will tell you the best thing for you is that they tax, spend big government, and make decisions for you.

We saw on the first day of the public hearings in the House that there is genuinely a “deep state,” and we saw two of the perhaps thousands of bureaucrats who are trying to make decisions and policy for us without being elected. They refuse to accept that the Constitution gives foreign policy choices only to the President. They were upset that the President didn’t consult with them before he made decisions on Ukraine, North Korea, China and every other thing. I found it surprising that neither of the two witnesses had ever met President Trump or talked to him; however, they did think they should have been involved in any decisions.

I believe anger grows against the Democrats every day. Democrats can’t see what is coming. They look down the railroad track and see one headlight, but don’t see the 300 cars behind the locomotive. The Democrats and the mainstream press will be devastated by the results in the November election; the defeat will be so massive that they will not be able to blame Russian interference; instead, they will be looking for the real circular firing squad.

Perkins Twist: What can President Trump do about the deep state that controls the government and believes it is in control? The President has to clean house. Every person within 5 years of their pension should be given severance and early retirement; next, everyone within 10 years of retirement will vest into their pensions portions not already vested, and will be given 6 months’ severance. The remaining civil servants will be let go and receive 3 months’ pay. One other thing: all employees let go will not be eligible for any job in another federal department, or to work for a government contractor for 5 years. The federal government has twice as many employees as the next largest employer in the world, Wal-Mart; we have to shrink the size and the budget.
