Daylight Savings Time All Year? GOP Senators Propose Permanent Clock

Two Republican senators have proposed to Congress the idea of making daylight saving time permanent

Permanent Clock

Senators Marco Rubio and Cindy Hyde-Smith have proposed to Congress that the “irritatingly outdated practice,” of resetting clocks should be ditched, and daylight time should be realigned to match with Americans’ “most productive hours, while also improving public health and the American economy.”

Continuing to call the clock-changing tradition completely antiquated and outdated, the two senators introduced the “Sunshine Protection Act,” meant to make DST permanent year-round, which the senators also argue would aid public safety and the economy.

The two referenced studies from Brookings and JP Morgan Chase when highlighting the potential positive effects of such a change, that would not “overturn some profound legacy in American history,” quoting them saying that a 27% reduction in robberies during the evening hours of gained sunlight was suggested by the Brookings study. Furthermore, the JP Morgan Chase study discovered that Americans “experience decreased economic activity while not on DST.”

“With such clear advantages to year-round DST, Congress has no excuse to remain in the dark on the issue,” the two said.
