G20 Summit: World Leaders Promise COVID-19 Vaccines For Everyone

At a two-day virtual meeting, world G20 leaders promised COVID-19 vaccines for everyone.

The G20 country leaders were highly disturbed by the increasing coronavirus cases, which led millions of people to extreme poverty and highlighted the importance of an affordable COVID-19 vaccine.

Among the official statements made by the G-20, coronavirus "revealed vulnerabilities in our preparedness and response and underscored our common challenges" and called for sparing no effort "to protect lives."

Additionally, the world G20 leaders supported the international COVAX initiative for distributing coronavirus vaccines, although Donald Trump rejected it.

After the virtual summit of G20 leaders, German Chancellor Angela Merkel told reporters that her country supported financially the COVAX initiative, however, the money was not enough.

Apart from the financial part, there is another concern that countries like France, Germany, the UK, and the US have arranged deals with pharmaceutical companies which means that the COVID-19 vaccines for the next year are already reserved.

Nonetheless, according to Angela Merkel, there is still hope because "not only Europe secures vaccines” and “it is important for the entire world" to access them.
